LOS ANGELES (January 31) - Due to a left biceps injury sustained while training on Monday, January 30, Andre Berto will be unable to compete in his scheduled February 11 SHOWTIME televised bout against Victor Ortiz at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., forcing a cancellation of the event on that date. All parties involved are actively seeking a possible postponement date for Ortiz vs. Berto II.

BROCKTON — Legendary boxing trainer Goody Petronelli, a Brockton native who trained a string of professional boxers including Marvelous Marvin Hagler, has died, his son said Monday.

David Petronelli of Middleboro said his father died early Sunday morning at his home in Sagamore, presumably of natural causes. He was 88.

Having been involved in boxing for seven decades, Goody is most known for training and then working the corner for middleweight champion Hagler.

BRONX, NY (January 23, 2012) - Undefeated 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrius "Boo Boo" Andrade believes his February 10 main-event fight against former USBA junior middleweight champion Derek "Pooh" Ennis, for the vacant North American Boxing Organization ("NABO") junior middleweight title, is a continuation of a well designed plan, eventually landing him a world title fight later this year or in early 2013.

With world title belt implications for the winner, Andrade-Ennis headlines the Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing show on ESPN Friday Night Fights at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Andrade (15-0, 10 KOs), fighting out of nearby Providence, was a much decorated amateur who in 2007 became the first American since 1999 to capture a gold medal at the World Amateur Championships. New York, NY - (1/6/2012) - At the press conference last week in New York City to announce DiBella Entertainment's HBO Championship Boxing St. Patrick's Day card at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, Andy Lee, who was slated to fight in the televised co-feature bout of the evening, stated, "I want to thank Lou (DiBella - Lee's promoter) for letting me showcase myself on this show. After seeking an opponent for the past two months and not being able to come up with anything suitable, Team Lee has announced that they will be coming off the card, and now it is rumored he could be the next opponent for WBA Middleweight Champion Felix Sturm.

For his new action flick, Haywire, director, Steven Soderbergh didn't want a star who could only pretend-fight. He wanted a female who can fight, and hopefully could act. After watching Gina Carano fight a huge fight in a spirited losing effort against Christina Cyborg, his interest in getting Gina onto the big screen was sparked. After he met with her, and talked for hours, he was sure he was right.

Similar to Soderbergh's Ocean's 11, the film boasts an all star cast, but the plot and structure do not match up with Carano's electricity on the big screen. Carano delivered the goods against men in fight scenes that are as shocking as they are exciting and real. The beauty of Carano in the role is how realistic she makes the fight scenes. Her intensity is unmatched in the fight scenes and it is amazing how attractive and sexy she is both during and in between giving out beatings. Brick City can not wait to see Gina back on the big screen again. While its not Soderbergh's best work, it is an action packed, entertaining film in which a star is born and it is highly recommended.

Headlining the card will be Brooklyn's undefeated NABF light welterweight champion, Gabriel "Tito" Bracero (18-0, 3KO's) defending his title against his toughest opponent to date, former junior welterweight world champion DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley (37-10-1, 22KO's). The bout is schedule for 10 rounds.

Tickets are nearly sold out for the event Saturday, with additional standing-room-only seats having to be added this week. There will be a limited number of tickets available at the door Saturday night. Doors open at 6PM with the first bout schedule for 6:30PM.

In addition to the exciting main event, there is a number of DBE's most promising up-and-coming prospects and contenders being featured on the card, including world-rated Ran Nakash (25-1, 18KO's) and Luis "Orlandito" Del Valle (14-0, 11KO's).

Nakash, who just recently signed with DBE, is ranked number 15 by the WBC at Cruiserweight. Nakash, who hails from Haifa, Israel, will be returning to the ring for the first time since his unsuccessful title challenge against WBO Cruiserweight champion, Marco Huck. Nakash pressed the action throughout, giving Huck all he could handle for the entire 12-round championship contest before dropping a 116-112, 118-110, 118-110 decision in Huck's home country of Germany. In 2007, Nakash was appointed to the Head of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Krav Maga School, and is currently a Chief Commander of the IDF's Krav Maga instructional division, the highest ranking professional authority. Looking to impress in his DBE and New York City debut, Nakash is scheduled to take on the very dangerous Derek Bryant (20-6, 17KO's) in an eight-round cruiserweight showdown.

Del Valle is one of the most promising prospects in boxing right now. Chosen as one of ESPN reporter Dan Rafael's "Super 25: Best Prospect of 2011" list, Del Valle is already rated number five by the WBA at featherweight. Del Valle is two fights removed from his most impressive victory as a professional, in which he won a dominant 10-round unanimous decision over Dat Nguyen (17-1 at the time) on ShoBox to grab the vacant NABA featherweight title. Weighing in at 124lbs. for his past two fights, Del Valle has worked his way down to start contending in the junior featherweight division. Del Valle is scheduled to take on hard-hitting Mexican Jose Angel Beranza in an eight-round junior featherweight contest.

DBE undefeated prospects, welterweight Alex Perez (14-0, 8KO's) and junior featherweight Luis Rosa (9-0, 5KO's) are also set to see action on the card in separate bouts. Perez, from Newark, NJ, is scheduled to take on Josh Sosa (10-1, 5KO's) in an eight-round welterweight match-up, while New Haven's Rosa, is scheduled to square off against Queens-native Jhovany Collado (3-6-2, 1KO) over six scheduled rounds.

Earlier this evening the World Bare Knuckle Boxing Association announced that BKB 2 will take place February 25 in Arizona, with current World Heavyweight Bare Knuckle Boxing Champion Bobby “The Celtic” Warrior Gunn putting his title on the line against an opponent to later be named. The first sanctioned bare knuckle boxing match since 1889 took place last August 5, 2011, when Bobby Gunn defeated Richard Stewart to claim the vacant linear world heavyweight BKB title, last held by John L. Sullivan. This past week, Sunday, February 8th, marked the 15th year anniversary of the tragic death of one of the true middleweight legends of the sport and perhaps the best South American boxer in history. Before there was Martinez, before there was Matthysse, before there was Baldomir, there was Carlos “Escopeta” Monzon.

Though he was often criticized for having a record littered with no-name fighters, Monzon’s greatness is unquestioned in boxing circles. With his great movement and knockout power in both hands, he was quite a sight to behold. Though his career started off unremarkably, losing in just his 9th pro fight and 2 more times in the first two years of his career, Monzon would not lose another fight for the remaining 13 years of his career, amassing an incredible 87-3-9 record with 59 KOs.

New York, NY - (1/13/2012) - Middleweight Champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez wrapped up his NYC trip on Thursday and headed back to his training camp in Oxnard, California, to begin the preparations for his middleweight title defense against Ireland's Matthew Macklin at Madison Square Garden, on St. Patrick's Day (March 17), live on HBO's "World Championship Boxing".

It was a busy few days for Martinez, the number three pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Former IBA Cruiserweight champion and reigning world heavyweight bare knuckle boxing champion Bobby Gunn has recently discussed coming back into the squared ring and fighting one last time with the gloves on.

The Celtic Warrior (21-4-1, 18 KO) last stepped in between the ropes in July of 2009, when he suffered a TKO loss to Tomasz Adamek for the IBF Cruiserweight title. Through his boxing career Gunn faced much adversity and controversy, and following the Adamek fight, he hadn’t planned on making a return to the gloved sport.

In less than a month’s time, on February 4th, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will put his WBC Middleweight title on the line against hard hitting veteran Marco Antonio Rubio at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

At first glance, the “Son of the Legend”, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is one of the true bright young stars of boxing. At just 25 years of age, Chavez Jr. is the WBC Middleweight Champion, sports a gaudy 44-0 record with an impressive 31 KOs and has been highlighting his own PPV shows down in Mexico for years. However, as those who follow boxing closely will tell you, once you look past the surface, JCC Jr. is a lot less impressive. First, his great record has very few recognizable names on it, in other words, he was fed a steady diet of “tomato cans.” Second, his popularity and PPV prowess are more a result of who his father is than what he has done in the ring. Third, his title was gained from the light-hitting and relatively lightly-regarded Sebastian Zbik via close mixed-decision victory.

Key West, FL (January 7, 2012) – Denis “Da Momma’s Boy” Douglin of Morganville, NJ scored his biggest victory to date by outpointing highly touted and previously unbeaten junior middleweight Steven Martinez Friday evening at Mallory Square in Key West, FL.

Key West, FL/New York, NY - (1/4/2012) - This Friday night, the Bronx's fast-rising junior middleweight prospect Steven Martinez (11-0, 9KO's) will be in the most important fight of his young career when he takes on Denis Douglin (13-1, 8KO's) in an eight-round contest in the opening televised bout of the 2012 Season Premiere of ESPN's "Friday Night Fights", from Mallory Square in beautiful Key West, Florida. The card, promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with D & J Management Productions, is headlined by world-rated Dyah Davis (20-2-1, 9KO's) taking on Alfonso Lopez (22-1, 17KO's) in a 10-round super middleweight showdown. ESPN2/ESPN3 will begin live coverage at 9PM ET.

Martinez, a former three-time NY Golden Gloves champion and 2008 National Golden Gloves 152lb. champion, was originally scheduled to take on fellow undefeated prospect Jonathan Cepeda, until Cepeda was forced to pull out after being in a car accident. (January 4, 2012) –Jimmy Lange Boxing officials announced today that highly-rated junior middleweight contender “Lightning” Harry Joe Yorgey (23-1-1, 11 KOs) of Bridgeport, Pa., will square off with undefeated local power puncher Zain “Tiger” Shah (5-0, 3 KOs) of Chantilly, Va., in a six-round contest on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Patriot Center. The action-packed card, presented by Valcourt Building Services, features three world title bouts headlined by Jimmy Lange’s defense of his World Boxing Union 154-lb. belt (opponent TBA).

Yorgey, coming off a fifth-round KO win against Donovan Castaneda last February, has suffered only one loss – a third-round KO to Alfredo Angulo for the World Boxing Organization Junior Middleweight Championship – during his ten-year career. The Philadelphia-area fighter has captured a pair of 154-lb. championships. He defeated Jason LeHoullier via majority decision for the International Boxing Federal International title on August 22, 2008 and won the International Boxing Association Intercontinental belt with a ninth-round KO over Ronald Hearns on March 28, 2009. This fight marks his debut in the Capital area.

NEW YORK (January 4, 2011) - Boxing 360 announced today that it has signed Philadelphia heavyweight prospect Joey Dawejko (5-0, 2 KOs) to an exclusive promotional contract. The 21-year-old Polish-American fighter is scheduled to make his Boxing 360 debut January 13 at home in Philadelphia against an opponent to be determined.

"He's a catch," Boxing 360 founder and CEO Mario Yagobi said about signing Dawejko. "He's powerful, very poised for his young age, with an impressive amateur background from 105 pounds to super heavyweight. He's 5-10, weighs 235 pounds, and is powerful with either hand. He throws punches from different angles and when he hits, his opponent really feels it. Big heavyweights feel awkward fighting Joey because he's short and stocky. We believe that, in time, Joey will be a cruiserweight, where he'll be even more powerful fighting in that division. We're excited to be working with Joey and look for big things from him."

BOCA RATON, Florida (January 4, 2012) - World-rated super middleweight contender "Dangerous" Dyah Ali Davis (20-2-1, 9 KOs) headlines against Alfonso "The Tiger" Lopez (22-1, 17 KOs) in this week 2012 season-opening ESPN Friday Night Fights show, held outdoors in Mallory Square in Key West, Florida.

Presently rated No. 9 by the World Boxing Council ("WBC") and No. 10 by the World Boxing Association ("WBA"), Davis will not be fighting too far from his Fort Lauderdale home in the 10-round main event versus Lopez, who fights out of Cut and Shoot, Texas.

"Friday night is very important for me because it's the first ESPN show of the year and my first fight on ESPN," Davis said as he concluded training camp. "I think ESPN has an even broader range of coverage than HBO or Showtime because everybody has it. It's my coming out party. To the great surprise of boxing fans and pundits alike (this writer included) Mount Arlington’s own Pawel “Raging Bull” Wolak announced his retirement from the sport of boxing last month.

The announcement came mere days after a one sided loss to Delvin Rodriguez on HBO PPV on the undercard of the latest installment of Cotto-Margarito. Initially, it may seem that there should be no surprise in this decision, after all, Wolak took extensive punishment during this fight. Yet if one analyzes this situation a bit deeper, a potentially different picture appears with a comeback being a distinct possibility.

In a bout that has the makings of a match made in boxing heaven, former Heavyweight Champion Sergei "White Wolf" Liakhovich takes on top Heavyweight Contender "Fast" Eddie Chambers to open the new NBC Sports Network's Fight Night on January 21, 2012, at 9pm, at Asylum Arena in Philadelphia.

Sergei is a native of Belarus and grew up in the former Soviet Union. He attributes his upbringing to the type of fighter and person he is today.
