WHAT I REMEMBER MOST ABOUT "SMOKIN' JOE
By: Jim Amato
The sport of boxing lost a true legend with the passing of former heavyweight champion Joe Frazier. So much of my early days following boxing had to do with Joe Frazier. I was only ten years old when he won the Olympic Gold Medal in 1964. I remember how impressed I was seeing a photo of a smiling Frazier with his hands raised above his head in the sports page. This was after halting the rugged George Chuvalo in 1967. This was the same Chuvalo who went the distance with Muhammad Ali in a title fight the year before. I knew then Frazier would be a champion one day.

Many Thanks from Melson!
With my 30th Thanksgiving on God’s Green Earth finally here, I have more to be thankful for than ever before.
The Clinical Stem Cell trial I’ve supported throughout my career is headed in the right direction and could help millions of Americans suffering from Spinal Cord Injuries. I owe a special thanks to Dr. Wise Young, the Muhammad Ali of spinal cord procedures, and Dr. Patricia Morton, an elite neuroscientist who has been the backbone of justadollarplease.org since day one.

You Don’t Know Who Won the Fight!
The Judges Were on Point for Pacquiao vs. Marquez III

By: Danny Serratelli
Despite what many boxing fans think it is extremely difficult to accurately determine who won a 12 round fight under the 10-point must scoring system if you do not score the fight round by round as the official judges do. As most boxing fans know each round is usually scored 10-9, unless there is a knockdown, point deduction, truly even round, or in other limited instances such as when a fighter is thoroughly dominated and is able to remain on his feet the entire round.

People are constantly accusing boxing judges of being corrupt. While there are always exceptions the fact is that most of the individuals making these accusations should educate themselves on the subject. Many do not understand how the fights are scored; they often think their experience as a trainer, fighter or working in boxing makes them an expert on who won the fight. This is regardless of the fact that most of these people do not take the time to keep score.

Manny Pacquiao Defeats Juan Manuel Marquez in Thrilling End to Trilogy
By: John Novoselac at ringside, Doghouse Boxing (Nov 13, 2011)

Tonight in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Manny Pacquiao earned a narrow majority decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez to retain his WBO welter weight title in a contest no less thrilling that their first 2 epic encounters. Marquez had plenty of successful moments, but they just were not enough to dethrone the Pac Man.

"Brotherly Love"
Written By: Tarvis Simms

My Brother has fallen and everyone knows his name
We don't have the same parents, but our families are still the same
He lived in the city of Philadelphia, I live in another,
it doesn't really matter because this man was my Brother
My Brother I call him, yet we'd never met face to face,
I have Brothers and Sisters all over the place
You see we are both fighters and our families are one,
around the world it's a brotherhood that's second to none
His family's my family, your family, or theirs,
we're part of one big family where everyone cares
I'll look after your kids, please look in on my wife,
should that day finally come I can no longer fight for my life
We dedicate our lives helping our fellow man,
living day after day, doing all that we can
Wherever we're needed whether nighttime or day,
to fight for the life of another we'll step in harm's way
My Brother has fallen after doing what he loved best,
and among the honored, he now stands with the rest
For one more round in the ring, here everyone stands
For my Brother has fallen, God into your hands

"We came here to America to become world champions," said Deano Burrell, who made his pro debut at Schuetzen Park a year ago. "That's why nothing that gets in our way can stop us in our journey."

Tommy Gallagher Boxing: Winners Have Scars" To Host First Show November 17 at Schuetzen Park in North Bergen
NORTH BERGEN, N.J. - Rich Komissar Promotions in association with Thomas Gallagher Productions are proud to announce the first installment of "Tommy Gallagher Boxing: Winners Have Scars," which will take place Thursday, November 17 at Schuetzen Park in North Bergen, N.J.
The show, which marks the return of club show boxing to Hudson County, will feature North Bergen's favorite son Danny "Little Mac" McDermott in the headlining spot against an opponent to be named in a special attraction light welterweight bout.
"I'm very excited to come back to North Bergen and start the next chapter of my career," said McDermott, with a record of 8-3 (3 KO). "What better place to start the new chapter than fighting in a place than I'm familiar with?"
For McDermott, this bout marks the return to familiar territory for him, the site of many of his most memorable bouts. Six times McDermott has entered Schuetzen Park for battle, none of which were more dramatic or entertaining than his 2010 war with Brian Miller, which was named BoxRec.com's Garden State Fight of the Year.
Former heavyweight boxing champ Joe Frazier dies
By: the CNN Wire Staff

(CNN) -- Joe Frazier, the hard-hitting boxing heavyweight who handed the legendary Muhammad Ali his first defeat, died Monday, shortly after being diagnosed with liver cancer, his family said in a statement.
The former heavyweight champion, who was 67, became a legend in his own right and personified the gritty working-class style of his hard-knuckled hometown, Philadelphia -- a fitting setting for the "Rocky" film series, starring Sylvester Stallone as hardscrabble boxer Rocky Balboa.
"You could hear him coming, snorting and grunting and puffing, like a steam engine climbing a steep grade," Bill Lyon wrote in a Philadelphia Inquirer column about Frazier, nicknamed Smokin' Joe.
BOXEO AZTECA DELIVERS AGAIN
Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing presented the second installment of their new series "BOXEO AZTECA", televised over the Azteca America network this past Saturday night, and once again delivered the goods as the fans were treated to an exciting night of fights which included another major upset.
The main event saw undefeated Mariusz Wach (26-0 14 KO N. Bergen, NJ) successfully defend his WBC International Heavyweight title with a hard fought victory over last minute replacement Jason Gavern (21-9-4 10 KO Orlando, FL). Gavern, who replaced former world champion Oliver McCall earlier this week, promised the fans he would put on a show and test Wach and Gavern delivered on his promise. Wach knocked Gavern down in each of the first two rounds but Jason battled back in the third and fourth rounds often bringing the raucous crowd to their feet. Wach eventually regained control and stopped the grisled veteran at the 1:03 mark of round 6 of a scheduled 12 round bout. Wach is currently rated 8 by the WBC and Gavern was ranked 29th coming into the bout.

Kirkland Stops Angulo in Action Packed Fight But Doesn’t Impress; Quillin Defeats McEwan
By Les Dowgier
Saturday night in Cancun, Mexico, James “Mandingo Warrior” Kirkland, 30-1, 27 KOs, came away with a 6th round stoppage victory over Mexico’s Alfredo “Perro” Angulo, 20-2, 17 KOs.
Leading up to this fight (and as HBO’s ringside commentators pointed out several times) everyone knew that there would be fireworks when these two fighters met and the fighters didn’t disappoint, at least for the first 3 minutes. From the opening bell Kirkland stuck closely to his well known modus operandi, coming straight at Angulo, pushing the Mexican back while throwing numerous punches, all with bad intentions. However, it was hard not to notice that Kirkland was being more than a bit careless and not a few seconds after Jim Lampley noted how rare it is to see Angulo being backed up in a fight, Angulo caught Kirkland with a solid right as the Mandingo Warrior lunged in to throw a punch. The shot dropped Kirkland to the canvas, where he looked at up Angulo, somewhat delirious and in disbelief. As Kirkland tried to beat the count and recompose himself, boxing fans experienced a strong sense of déjà vu as they recalled Kirkland’s surprising 1st round TKO loss to Nobuhiro Ishida seven months prior.

The Beaming Legacy of James “Bonecrusher” Smith!
Interview by: Rob Tierney
During the 1980’s, James “Bonecrusher” Smith was a roaming menace in the Heavyweight division for anyone looking to obtain or retain Championship status. He blasted Frank Bruno and Mike Weaver in devastating fashion before whipping Tim Witherspoon inside of one round for the WBA Title. He was one of only two men to make “Iron” Mike wait for the judges’ scorecards during Tyson’s initial championship reign and he emerged as an abrupt, game changing annoyance to Don King’s promotional plans for a Heavyweight unification process. Still, these are not the only things that the “Bonecrusher” will be remembered for when he is finished on this Earth.
In the new millennium, Reverend James “Bonecrusher” Smith is a humanitarian, role model and ordained minister. He gives back not only to his community and the kids that grow up in its streets; he is also a charitable resource and representative to many of Boxing’s elder, retired statesmen. I had a chance to catch up with James earlier this week to talk about boxing, charity and a number of Bonecrusher’s endeavors outside of the ring.
RT: Good Afternoon Champ! What is going on in Bonecrusher world?
JS: Well I have been spending most of my time lately putting together a Boxing Legends Hall of Fame weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina set for next Labor Day weekend.

BOXING: AMERICAN STYLE THOMPSON AND ARREOLA PLAN ON BRINGING THE HEAVYWEIGHT TITLES BACK TO THE U.S.
Sherman Oaks (Nov., 4) "I was crying my eyes out with joy," exclaimed Tony "The Tiger" Thompson upon hearing the official news from the International Boxing Federation (IBF) declaring him the mandatory challenger for Wladamir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO's) after his opponent in the IBF Heavyweight Title Elimination bout, Eddie Chambers, was forced to withdraw from their bout on October 28th, and was unable to commit to a new date that was set for December 17.
"I believe it was a tough, but honorable and right decision by the IBF and it's president, Daryl Peoples," said Dan Goossen of Goossen Tutor Promotions. "It was an unfortunate circumstance with Eddie forfeiting his chance and derailing the final match of the four-man IBF sanctioned box off."
Thompson's mandatory IBF Heavyweight Championship bout is to take place within 90 days of Klitschko's title defense on Dec. 10 against Jean-Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KO's) of France, with the winner mandated to fight Thompson.
