"GUILLERMO JONES - The Un-known Champion"
By: Ricky Ray Taylor
Guillermo Jones may be the most dangerous champion which nobody knows. In fact, at 39 and a career that is already 42 fights old - Jones may very well fade into the "best" fighter that we never knew.
"El Falino" (Jones) was 22-2 as an amateur fighter in Panama before opting to turn pro in 1993. Fighting as a Welterweight, Jones racked up 21 straight victories from the gate.
His efforts won him a versions of the WBA & WBC Welterweight Titles, the Panamanian Welterweight Title along with the WBA Light-Middleweight crown. In short, Guillermo Jones was one of the hottest Welterweights on the planet.

LEONEL HERNANDEZ; ALMOST A CHAMPION.
By: Jim Amato
About five years ago I did an article titled "Boxing's Almost Champions". It included Jerry Quarry,Yaqui Lopez,"Bad" Bennie Briscoe,Armando Muniz and others. It was based on my humble opinion that these boxers would have won titles in today's four governing bodies scenario. One of a few boxers I missed was Venezuela's Leonel Hernandez. In a solid 56 fight career he challenged for a title no less then five times. This was back when the WBA and WBC split the title pie. Hernandez drew in one title attempt and lost a split decision in another. So close but yet so far...

Tommy "The Razor" Rainone Is Coming To MSG For Blood

Danny Serratelli: How are you Tommy? First tell me where you are training and who you have been working with?
Tommy “The Razor” Rainone: I train at the Westbury boxing gym on Long Island, in New York. I go to other gyms here and there for sparring but Westbury is home and I get good work there as well. Besides myself we have some good up and coming pros training out of the gym like Michael Brooks, Cletus Seldin, Rich Neves, Marcus Bianconi, and Jacques Louis. Guys like Paulie Malignaggi, Chis Algieri and Mike Ruiz come by often and some solid amateurs as well so I really enjoy training there and have my entire career, it’s a second home to me

DS:
Who is training you and whats your situation with management?
TR: . I have the same trainer I've had since I turned pro Jorge Gallardo who trained former IBF Jr welterweight champion Jake Rodriguez and also trained Willy Wise who beat Julio Ceaser Chavez, I trust Jorge, he was a solid fighter and is a solid trainer, Jake actually started working with us two fights back in April so it's great to have a second pair of eyes and being that he is a southpaw like me an was trained by Jorge our styles are very similar so I’ve been able to absorb some of the things he has showed me rather quickly.

"The Real Rocky" premieres this Tuesday, 10/25 at 8pm on ESPN
Triple Threat TV and Tollin Productions present "The Real Rocky" - airing on Tuesday 10/25 at 8pm on ESPN. To borrow from ESPN's website:

The "Real Rocky" is Chuck Wepner -- a liquor salesman from Bayonne, N.J., who drives a Cadillac with "Champ" vanity plates. A former New Jersey state heavyweight boxing champion, he was christened with the nickname "The Bayonne Bleeder" for the abuse he suffered at the hands of Sonny Liston. In 1975, Wepner fought Muhammad Ali for the world heavyweight title.
In the 15th round, Ali knocked out Wepner after breaking his nose and opening cuts over both eyes. Sylvester Stallone wrote a screenplay, and starred in and won three Academy Awards (including best picture) for the film "Rocky," based on Wepner's gutsy challenge. Wepner was left out of the "Rocky" glory, and his career took turn after strange turn as he worked to stay in the spotlight. He went on to fight Andre the Giant as "The Assassin" and boxed a 900-pound Kodiak bear. Twice. Using too-good-to-be-true footage, Jeff Feuerzeig ("The Devil and Daniel Johnston") and Mike Tollin will explore the colorful life and bloodied career of this unique New Jersey character in their 1-hour ESPN film.

Please tune in or set your DVRs because this is another film that we are VERY proud of. We hope you enjoy the ride!

Photo: Chad Dawson raises hands in victory - Ref Pat Russell raises arms to end the fight.
It took new WBC light heavyweight champion “Bad” Chad Dawson, 31-1 (18), of New Haven, CT, 3 years to get former champ Bernard Hopkins, 52-6-2 (32) into the ring Saturday night at the Staples Center in L.A. But it only took 3 minutes of the first round to know why. Dawson came out the aggressor behind instructions from his trainer “Iceman” John Scully. It was quite apparent Hopkins was having trouble with the southpaw style that haunted him in his loss to Welshman, Joe Calzaghe in his last defeat in 2008.

BERNARD HOPKINS WORKOUT QUOTES
BERNARD HOPKINS, WBC & Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight World Champion
"Being 46 and sexy with the body of a 25-year-old? I think that is pretty impressive.
"I can predict I will win this fight. How I win will come out this Saturday night.
"I want the best Chad Dawson on Saturday night.
"He has to come out in character and not be the Dawson that he has been for many of his fights. The name doesn't match the last three or four outcomes. When you have the name 'Bad' and you're not Michael Jackson, you have to be able to own that. They call me 'The Executioner' for a reason.
CHAD DAWSON MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES
CHAD DAWSON, Former World Champion
“We have a great game plan. I don’t see Bernard getting past it. “I am excited for Saturday night. I have been waiting for this. I am ready to show the world I am still ‘Bad’ Chad Dawson.
“I don’t think this [Hopkins] is more of a challenge than Pascal. Pascal fell into Bernard Hopkins’ game plan. He fell right into it. Everyone knows Pascal is a four-round fighter. I was looking for a knockout victory against Pascal. He didn’t really beat me. I beat myself.
“Pascal is definitely a fight I want after this one. I want to avenge that loss. I want to be the undisputed light heavyweight champion when it is all said and done.

"It really would be gratifying to me and happy for me to sit back in my 60's and hear commentators say, "This guy is four fights away from beating Bernard Hopkins' record.
"In today's world where, unfortunately, most athletes, either don't stay as focused long enough after they get a taste of what we call success in life, or just run into the wrong match, the wrong person. So I'm going to have fun in the second half of my life.
