THE FIGHTER
Nothing is stronger than family
Micky Ward (MARK WAHLBERG) is a working-class boxing hero in the making.
Dicky Ecklund (CHRISTIAN BALE), his half-brother, is a former fighting legend in a tailspin.

The Fighter, based on a stirring true story of second chances, follows these two totally opposite brothers who seem to be headed in reverse directions until, against all the odds, they come together to train for a historic title bout that will unite their fractured family, redeem their pasts and, at last, give their hard-luck town what it’s been waiting for: something to believe in.
The story unfolds on the gritty, blue-collar streets of Lowell, Mass, where Dicky was once the town’s pride, having gone the distance with the world-famous champ Sugar Ray Leonard. Since then, Dicky, much like the town that once idolized him, has taken his knocks and hit rock-bottom.
Younger brother Micky, meanwhile, has become the family’s fighter and last hope, but he keeps getting punished in the ring. Dicky and Micky’s tougher-than-nails mother, Alice (MELISSA LEO), manages his flailing career while Dicky serves as his highly unreliable trainer and a tribe of seven sisters are his wincing cheering section. When Micky’s latest fight nearly kills him, it looks like it could all be over – until his iron-willed new girlfriend, Charlene (AMY ADAMS), convinces him to do the unthinkable: split with his family, pursue his own interests and train without his increasingly volatile and criminal brother.

Now Micky has the shot of a lifetime as he earns the chance to vie for the World Championship title – yet, he knows deep down he can’t achieve it alone. He has to find a way to bring Dicky, and the rest of their dysfunctional but indomitably devoted clan, back into his world. Pushing past the friction and disbelief, he forges a new team out of all his loved ones and, suddenly, it becomes more than just a fight he’s training for – it’s an all-out comeback bid for the two brothers, their family and their city. When it’s over, Micky will be a new legend in the ring, famed for his sudden, thunderous left hook, but he’ll be even bigger inspiration outside of it, having shown how heart, perseverance and unsinkable loyalty can, at the last minute, turn a seemingly lost cause completely around.
The result is a heartfelt, and humor-filled, drama that’s about fighting for the people you love.
Paramount Pictures and Relativity Media present The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg (The Lovely Bones, The Departed), Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation, Batman Begins), Amy Adams (Enchanted, Doubt, Julie & Julia) and Melissa Leo (Frozen River, 21 Grams, The Dry Land). David O. Russell (Spanking the Monkey, Flirting with Disaster, Three Kings) directs from a screenplay by Scott Silver (8 Mile), Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasay (Air Bud). David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, Paul Tamasy, Dorothy Aufiero, Ryan Kavanaugh and Mark Wahlberg serve as producers. The executive producer is Tucker Tooley.
