It was a packed house last night in South Philadelphia, as North Jersey’s KEA Boxing Promotions made their debut in the City of Brotherly Love. Heading the action in The Arena was crowd favorite Victor Vasquez, 11 – 3, (5 KOs) taking on known spoiler Carlos Vinan, 8 – 8, of Newark, NJ, in a scheduled 6 round light weight attraction.
When the bell sounded to start the fight, it was Vasquez who seemed to take control with solid jabs and overhand rights. The middle rounds were close, with Vasquez landing most of the power shots, and Vinon finding some success going to the body. Rounds five and six were hard to score with both men having their moments grinding it out to the final bell. The scores read 60 – 54 for Vasquez and 58 – 56, 59 – 55 for Vinon. The pro-Vasquez crowd was not happy with the decision as Vinon took the victory.
In the evening’s co-featured bout, former amateur standout Kareem ‘Cool Breeze’ Cooley, 1 – 0, (1 KO) scored a third round TKO over Sidell Blocker, 0 – 2, in a scheduled lightweight 4 rounder. Cooley dropped Blocker with a perfect right hand. Blocker beat the count, but the ref decided he could not continue. Official time of the stoppage was 1:12.
In other action…
Union City’s Juan Rodriguez, 2 – 0, (1 KO) scored a unanimous decision over Dontre King, 1 – 5.
Elizabeth Sherman, 2 – 0, won a unanimous decision over Karen Dulin, 1 – 4.
Lavarn Harvell, 5 – 0, (2 KOs) scored a first round TKO over Randy Campbell, 3 – 1, (2 KOs).
Angel Ocasio, 2 – 0, scored a unanimous decision over Osnel Charles, 1 – 1.
Anthony Yoder, Jr. (pro debut) won a unanimous decision over Francisco Portillo, 0 – 2.
Brian Jennings (pro debut) took a unanimous over Zeferino Albino, 3 – 9.
