The State Of Today's Boxing Game: The Decline Of Amateur Boxing In The United States
By: Brad Marchetti, Doghouse Boxing
There is a cancerous problem today in the boxing world with too many inept boxers and trainers in the United States. The only semblance of actual skilled boxing I have seen as a member of the sports media is at the world-class level. Most local boxing cards are usually a crude version of the sweet science without much science behind it at all. While not every boxer can be a Sugar Ray Leonard, there are fundamentals that are not even being used by today's boxers. Most boxing fans are knowledgeable and have noticed the diminished skil level of today’s pugilist. The ability to get out of the way of a punch is rarely being taught properly nowadays. Even some of the more promising boxers end up getting permanently brain damaged when they step up in class against boxers that have real punching power.

Andre Ward Shakes Up The "Super-Six" - Now Who's The Favourite?
By: James Slater www.Eastsideboxing.com- Unbeaten former Olympian Andre Ward did far more than just win his opening fight in the hugely exciting "Super-Six" tournament last night in his hometown of Oakland, California; he also scored the first big upset of the tourney and he also restored American pride by becoming the first U.S fighter to have won a bout in the tourney.
Stopping the defending WBA 168-pound champion and one of the tourney's overall favourites in the mighty Mikkel Kessler, Ward must now be looked at, along with Germany's Arthur Abraham, as the leader of the talented group.
Certainly, and no disrespect to Jermain Taylor, Ward will be a pretty big favourite to win his next fight in the Show Time tourney, against the former middleweight king. Knocked out badly by Abraham in his "Super-Six" opener, Taylor made us wonder if he'd even carry on in the tourney. He is going to, though, and now he faces an uphill task of the highest order against the 21-0(13) 25-year-old.
Andre Ward vs Mikkel Kessler Boxing Betting Odds
By: Brad Marchetti, Doghouse Boxing (Nov 21, 2009)
Tonight the Showtime super-six boxing series continues when Mikkel Kessler faces Andre Ward in a 12-round W.B.A super-middleweight title fight. Ward is a former gold-medalist that will be facing the toughest test of his career when he faces the imposing champion from Denmark. Ward has home-field advantage in this bout fighting in front of his hometown crowd of Oakland but he might not need it. The Andre Ward vs. Mikkel Kessler Odds have Kessler as a -220 favorite.
Analysis: Mikkel Kessler is a muscular boxer\puncher with excellent power, technique and stamina. Kessler has beaten a high level of competition and his only loss came in a close fight with former pound-4-pound fighter Joe Calzaghe. Kessler is a pressure fighter that works behind a fast and heavy left jab that is among the best in the business. Kessler can punch with both hands and has a straight-right that can separate men from their working brain cells. Kessler works the body effectively and wears opponents down with his pressure and physicality. Kessler is somewhat mechanical and can be hurt but has shown a solid punch resistance throughout his career. Kessler works behind a high-guard with his chin tucked to his chest making him a difficult target to tag cleanly. The Andre Ward vs. Mikkel Kessler Odds Over\Under is at 9.5 rounds with the OVER at -240.

FOUR SUPER SIX FIGHTERS MAKE PREDICTIONS ON WINNER OF MIKKEL KESSLER-ANDRE WARD FIGHT
European Boxers Taking Kessler; Americans Are Picking Ward
To Win Nov. 21 Group Stage 1 Match On SHOWTIME®
NEW YORK (Nov. 19, 2009) — The two Europeans boxers – victorious over their American opponents in the first round of the Super Six World Boxing Classic – are predicting Mikkel “Viking Warrior” Kessler will beat Andre “S.O.G.” Ward in the final Group Stage 1 matchup Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. live on SHOWTIME® (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).
The two Americans who suffered losses don’t see it that way and are for Ward. “I'm going with Ward,” said Andre Dirrell, after his Group Stage 1 defeat to Carl Froch in October. Dirrell, along with Froch, Arthur Abraham and Jermain Taylor, will be ringside Nov. 21 to catch all the action. “Ward has the ability to win,” continued Dirrell. “This is his biggest fight so he'll have to stick to his game plan but I'm going with him."

Manny Pacquiao....One of THE GREATEST of all time...Floyd are you out there?
Brick City's...Word on the Street
By: Danny Serratelli
Manny Pacquiao padded his legacy last night be soundly defeating a true welterweight and champion in Miguel Cotto. It was a brilliant performance to follow brilliant performances against Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton, however this was the most impressive of those three considering all other factors. Pacquiao has continued to improve his game through out his career, and trainer Freddie Roach has also earned his paycheck along the way. Pacquiao's ability to both take a punch and hurt people at welterweight, after turning professional at 106 pounds, and making his name in the lighter weight divisions is mind blowing to anyone who has been in the ring or knows boxing.
Manny Pacquiao TKO's Miguel Cotto: Firepower Equals Fireworks - Ringside Boxing Report
By: John Novoselac at ringside, Doghouse Boxing (Nov 15, 2009) Photo © German Villasenor, Doghouse Boxing

Over 12 absolutely action packed rounds, Manny Pacquiao proved himself to be a force in the welterweight division with a 12th round TKO victory over Miguel Cotto.
Cotto came out fighting behind a stiff jab and disciplined approach, that included some nice body shots, and came out of the first round looking to be able to handle the Filipino fury.
However, the 2nd round saw Pacquaio's left hand fiding its target, and proved to be the harbinger of things to come as a war erupted. 45 seconds into the third round saw a Pacquiao straight left shot put Cotto down shockingly. Cotto appeared to shake it off and set some traps later in the round in the corners, with no real success as he ate counters for his trouble.

Malignaggi v. Diaz: Paulie Gets A Second Chance
By Les Dowgier
Virtually every boxing fan who watched the highly entertaining August 22nd showdown between Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz, 35-2 (17 KOs), and Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi, 26-3 (5 KOs), was left with a bad taste in their mouth after a very questionable decision denied Malignaggi a victory which appeared to be rightfully his. Well it is now official; the rematch that most of the boxing world wished for (and Malignaggi so vocally and rightfully demanded) is set for Dec. 12th at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.
PACQUIAO VS. COTTO-WHO ARE YOU PICKING?

Athletes, Celebrities, Boxers and Writers Predict Who Will Win the
November 14 Showdown
LAS VEGAS (November 9, 2009) - BIG George Foreman leads the list of boxers, professional athletes, celebrities and the esteemed press core who all have opinions about the outcome of FIREPOWER: MANNY PACQUIAO and MIGUEL COTTO. The championship bout takes placeon Saturday November 14 at MGM Grand Garden Arena and will be produced and distributed live on HBO Pay-Per-View®, beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
In just five days the pound-for-pound king Pacquiao and three-time world champion Cotto meet in the ring in one of the most talked about match-ups in recent boxing history. Some of the most well-known fighters, celebrities, athletes and writers are abuzz with talk of Saturday's evenly matched battle.
From Foreman to P. Diddy, Trump to Hopkins, below please find the predictions of these famous personalities as they answer the question "Pacquiao vs. Cotto-Who will win and why?"
THE BOXERS ARE PICKIN'...
"I think there would have been a good opportunity for Pacquiao to win if he faced Cotto before he fought Clottey, but now Cotto is thinking defense. I think Cotto is going to pull out a decision, and now because of the terrible beating he took against Margarito, he knows he can't get into a knockdown drag out brawl. He's going to be smarter, and I think Cotto wins in a 12 round decision.
"Pacquiao has been riding high and has beaten some of the best in the world. And it leaves you kind of complacent when you're winning. And even if you don't want it to, sometimes you can't get up for a big fight. And that's a plus for Cotto.
I think it's an excellent fight. But when you're riding high you think you're going to walk through your opponent. You get overconfident. People in your camp tell you you're going to win. And you have your spies in camp, telling you about the other guy. When I faced Ali, Frazier and Norton both had beaten Ali, and I had knocked them out pretty easily. So when I faced Ali, I had that confidence, and you think I surely can beat this guy. So I know the feeling, and I think that will happen to Pacquiao."
- George Foreman, Former Two-Time Heavyweight World Champion, Olympic Gold Medalist, and Entrepreneur.
"I pick Manny Pacquiao by knockout. I think he will knock him out in 7 or 8. Manny just has too much for Cotto."
- Mike Tyson, Former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World

TIME IS ON MANNY PACQUIAO'S SIDE

Los Angeles, CA (November 5)-On the heels of his first primetime television appearance on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live and his recognition as a 2009 Gusi Peace Prize laureate, boxing phenom Manny Pacquiao now finds himself on the cover of TIME Magazine Asia edition (see below) as part of a five page feature story on the boxing Champion that will be included in all editions (global and US market) of the magazine hitting newsstands this weekend.
With the population of Asia being the largest in the world, Pacquiao is overwhelmed with the idea of so many people seeing his face on the cover of such a prestigious magazine.
"I absolutely had no idea that when I started my career in boxing, to provide a better life for myself and my family, that I would now be where I am today and on the cover of TIME Magazine," said Pacquiao. "A fighter's dream is to win a world title and gain financial stability. But what is happening to me now is the most humbling experience of my life. It is a great honor for me to be the face of my people and to let everyone know we are a small but mighty country. I have great pride for all of the Filipinos living throughout the world and it is these people that I fight for each and every time I step into the ring."
