Adamek-Golota Still On...maybe
By Les Dowgier
Despite numerous reports to the contrary, according to a recent interview given by long time Adamek manager Ziggy Rozalski, the fight between his charge and Andrew Golota is still on. Apparently, Rozalski recently met with Golota’s promoter Don King and the two have worked out the terms of the deal. Furthermore, Golota has apparently already consented in writing (as required by his promotional contract) to allow King to make the fight.
When asked about the comments of Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events (Adamek’s promoter), who stated that she knows nothing about a proposed fight between the two Polish pugilists and would not be interested in making such a fight happen, Rozalski stated that according to his partnership agreement with Main Events, his opinion carries the most weight in regard to what happens with Adamek, at least after he consults with the cruiserweight king. Therefore, since both Rozalski and Adamek want this fight to go forward, Duva will not stand in the way (at least according to Rozalski).
This is turning into an interesting situation where we might potentially have a stand-off. One thing is for certain though, Duva will do everything in her power to make sure that nothing jeopardizes the potential showdown between Adamek and living-legend Bernard Hopkins, a fight which is currently being negotiated between Main Events and Golden Boy Promotions (and of course HBO) to take place in early 2010. Stay tuned for more developments...
