Archie DeVino, former bantamweight and featherweight contender out of New Jersey, passed away this morning. Archie, a 1944 New Jersey State Amateur Champion, fought at Madison Square Garden 11 times as a Pro. From February 1946 to March 1947 he would box 21 times without a defeat, going 20-0-1. Most likely his biggest win was against Luis Galvani on September 15, 1950 at Madison Square Garden. Galvani came into the bout undefeated in 46 bouts and was rated as high as #2 in the World by Ring Magazine.
Medical problems to Archie's hands cut his career short and he finished with a 44-11-3 record.
