Super middleweight prospect Jerson Ravelo 19-4 (12) has his sights set on a world championship title, and at this time is willing to jump in the ring with any big name fighter who will get him a step closer to his prize.

A 2000 Olympian, the Dominican born boxer banged out thirteen consecutive wins, with nine knock out before dropping his first L to the hands of David Lopez. In his eight years as a professional fighter, Ravelo has defeated the likes of Ted Muller (TKO 4), Mohammad Said (MD), and Donnell Wiggins (KO 1). He has fallen short against the likes of Allan Green and Andrew Ward, two fighters that Ravelo said he would like to step in with again.

Although Ravelo has faced a few problems in the ring with injuries, the thirty one year old says he is healed, ready and willing to get back in the ring. In this exclusive interview conducted by Doghouse Boxing, Jerson speaks out on his career and talks about his future, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr.: What has been going down in your world?

Jerson Ravelo: I am ready to get back in the ring, I lost last February, I actually lost a fight that I was winning, and I was winning the whole fight. For some reason I was told that I had to go out and knock the guy out because the fight was close. It really was not close, and after the fight was over, the scorecards proved that I was winning. I should have gone with my instincts and kept doing what I was doing, which was boxing. I got caught with a shot to the temple and I went down, I did get up and told the ref that I was good but he said I wasn’t and you cannot argue with the ref.

BH: Your last outing was an eight round loss from the hands of Dan Mouton, when you lose a bout in such fashion, being either a KO or TKO loss, what does that do to your mindset? Do you get gun shy or would you rather jump back in the ring a soon as you possibly can?

JR: This is what happened, after the fight I was disappointed that I went into the locker room through all my clothes away and said I would not fight anymore an and I was done. And then a week later I was in the gym. I love to win and I hate to lose, and although I have four losses, I hate to lose; I get depressed for a little bit then I get right back and want to fight again.

BH: What do you feel you bring to the super middleweight division?

JR: Here is the thing, I bring a lot to the table, but at the same time, the fighters, they seen my record and don’t want to fight me because they know I can beat them, but at the same time if they beat me people will say well he has four losses. I just called about a fight, Adamek is fighting Bobby Gunn, so I called main Events, and they have a guy who is fighting from Poland who is 22-0. I told them I wanted the fight, they told me they already had somebody but they will put my name in the hat and see what happens. So I got a call the next day and I was told that I had the fight, that they picked to fight me, so I was like cool. I got back in the gym and I got a call back about an hour later saying they do not want to fight me, they want to fight Curtis Stevens.

BH: That frustrating?

JR: Yes, but the thing is I sparred with Adamek here and there, so the guy who is fighting who is 22-0, I think he is trained by Adamek’s trainer. So I guess they did not want to fight me because they seen me spar with Adamek and the now what I really have. They want somebody to stand in front of him, which is Curtis Stevens, I will box him.

BH: When will you be returning to the ring?

JR: I am in the gym staying busy and if something comes up I will be ready, but hopefully this July.

BH: If you could climb in the ring with any fighter in your division, who would it be and why?

JR: Well first of all I would like to get a rematch with Allan Green, but I know that is not happening, he is in for a title shot now. I consider myself a good fighter, people look at my record and say this guy is do ne and does not have it anymore. People don’t understand, I have broken my hand five times, and I have four losses, but so what, my time is coming. I would love a rematch with Allan Green as well as Andre Ward. I will have to work my way up for those rematches.

BH: If you got the rematches, what would be different than before with you?

JR: Well, Allan Green I broke my hand in the third round, so that can happen to any fighter. Before the Ward fight, for some reason I was getting these damn migraines for three months, I am not making excuses, because I never said that before. I don’t like making excuses, I don’t make them, but sh*t happens, and I cannot be an excuse because it happened a long time ago.

BH: In closing, if you could send out a message to the fight world concerning Jerson Ravelo, what would it be?

JR: I am back in the gym, it was not my time, but everything comes in time, God has a plan for everybody, I just feel like God did not think it was the time for me to become a world champion. Me being a 100% in a fight, I don’t see anybody beating me.
