“Furious” Freddy Takes Care of Business

By: Danny Serratelli
The Contender’s “Furious” Freddy Curiel, 19-8-2, 8 KO’s of Paterson New Jersey, fighting out of Vernon, New Jersey came out to impress his fans and he did just that. Freddy took on Fransisco “Flash” Ruben Osorio12-6, 10 KO’s, and “Flash”, to his credit also came to fight. The main event of the evening from the Baker Theater in Dover, New Jersey was promoted by Team Furious, with matchmaker, Don Elbaum and was for the WBF Americas middleweight title. Osorio, a southpaw, had a tricky defensive style and Curiel had a hard time touching him in the early rounds, despite the fact that he was winning the rounds as the busier aggressor.
Freddy sealed the fight in the 4th round, ironically, the only round the Doghouseboxing / Brickcityboxing card scored for Osorio. Freddy made me proud as an alumnus of the old Costello’s gym in Paterson New Jersey where Freddy fought as an amateur. Curiel was winning, in a tough fight through 3 rounds. In the 4th round Osorio caught Curiel with a big shot and appeared to open up a big cut on his nose and probably broke it. Curiel was stopped in his tracks and Osorio jumped on him. Curiel stopped punching and was backed into the corner. It looked like he was hurt and Ororio was trying to do some damage, but Freddy flashed a grin and timed one of his best right hands of the fight, and in turn had Osorio running for the last minute of the round.
From the exciting 4th round on, Curiel seemed driven by his own blood and the home town fans. He made sure he didn’t leave any question who won the remaining rounds. Curiel came to fight, he is no longer had the fleet footed 135 pounder that he came up as, but a seasoned veteran who is now a full fledged middle weight, he used every trick in the book on the polished south paw. His children screamed throughout the fight from his corner, and Furious Freddy stayed who he has always been.
