First on Green’s mind is Carl Froch, the WBC champion who successfully defended his title with a dramatic 12th-round knockout over Jermain Taylor in Saturday night’s main event.

And since Froch traveled to America to fight Taylor, Green has no qualms about going to Froch’s homeland of Great Britain for a shot at the championship.

Maddalone, Stevens Victorious!

By: Moses Vered

On Tuesday night Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing presented their first installment of “VIP Boxing.” The elegant Russo’s on the Bay Catering Hall located in Howard Beach, Queens hosted the event. All guests received the first-class treatment, which included a cocktail hour, a delicious 4-course dinner, and an all- night open bar.

Headlining the event was fan favorite and Queens native Vinny Maddalone. Maddalone, who was coming off of a tough decision loss to Denis Boystov in his last bout, faced a very game Benji Baker (18-6, 9 KOs). From the onset Maddalone pressed the action landing chopping right hands, dropping him with a big right at the end of the first round. Maddalone kept the pressure on Baker all night and although he boxed well in the second round Baker eventually succumbed to Maddalone’s constant assault. After being dropped two more times in the third and fourth rounds, Baker retired on his stool before the start of the fifth. With the victory Maddalone upped his record to 32-5, 23 KOs.

Alex “The Brick City Bullet” Perez Plans to Stay Very Busy…

The Brick City Bullet, moments before winning the belt in Puerto Rico

Alex “The Brick City Bullet” Perez, 10-0, 6 KO’s captured the WBC’s Caribbean Federation Welterweight title on March 14th. He came off of a 15 month layoff before that fight, not by any fault of his own, but because every time he was scheduled to fight there were problems with opponents falling out and promoters not making sure there was an opponent for him to fight come fight night. Perez was in the gym training for fights that weren’t to be the entire 15 months, and the time has made him more and more eager to fight as often as possible.

He will be returning to the ring on May 9th in Atlantic City, on the undercard of Hector Macho Camacho vs. Yory Boy Campas, just two months after picking up the WBC’s Carribean belt. Manager, Jose Rosario and his team plan to keep him busy the rest of the way in 09, because Perez is a hungry fighter. Alex has been at it 100% for a long time. He was 53-3 as an amateur where he was a 3 time Golden Gloves Champion and a 3 time Diamond Gloves Champ. He also captured the State Championship once before turning pro in late 2004.

Perez was born and raised in The Brick City, Newark New Jersey where he has lived his whole life in the Baxter Terrace projects. He is active in the community, always making himself available to lend a helping hand to kids who need a positive role model, guidance and good advice. Boxing has saved Perez and he makes sure he is always there for the kids and his friends in need in the gym. Keep an eye on the Brick City Bullet now, because he is a shooting star who is on the verge of big things in the near future!

Manny Pacquiao for President

By: Dave Hollander
www.huffingpost.com

He's more than just boxer. He's a movement. TIME magazine nominated him as one of 2009's most influential people in the world. He is the only boxer ever to have his own bobblehead night, which he did on April 21 at a San Francisco Giants home for their Filipino American Heritage Night which, by the way, turned out to be the biggest heritage night in the team's history. When he fights, all of the Philippines stands still. And that will likely be the case on May 2 when Manny Pacquiao -- the former WBC lightweight world champion, WBC super featherweight world champion, IBF super bantamweight world champion, and WBC flyweight world champion -- challenges World Junior Welterweight Champion Ricky Hatton of England at a sold out MGM Grand in Las Vegas -- a fight that is his next step after beating Oscar de La Hoya into retirement. My morning interview with the man who Ring magazine currently ranks as the "Pound for Pound Best Fighter" alive interrupted a very special fight training regimen.

Sorry to tear you away. I guess 9:30 in the morning is a good time for karaoke, huh?

Ah, yes. I am singing it at my friend's house.

What song were you performing?

It's my own song.

Really, what's it called?

In English it is called "This Fight is for You".

Froch Freezes Taylor in Final Round

By: Rob Tierney, ringside

Mashantucket, CT: In what can now be considered the leading candidate for 2009’s comeback fight of the year, Carl Froch stopped Jermain Taylor with 14 seconds left in the final round at the Foxwoods Casino late Saturday Night. In the Brit’s gutsiest performance to date, Froch successfully defended his WBC Super Middleweight Title with a jaw dropping comeback.

For eight rounds, Jermain Taylor boxed brilliantly. He peppered Carl Froch with perfect jabs and kept him at bay with powerful right hands. It appeared as if he was on the way to a title winning performance. However, all that changed late in the fight.

Is Carl Froch the Toughest Super-Middle?

By: Christopher Roche

Jermain Taylor had Carl Froch dead to rights tonight, at the MGM Grand Foxwoods, but he could not put the Englishman away.

Taylor opened the bout with vicious right hands that landed at will, and Froch looked out-quicked and overmatched. In the third round, Taylor dropped Froch for the first time in his career, and it looked like an early flight back to Little Rock was going to be had for Taylor.

Froch, who is the WBC champ at 168, often looked off-balance and short on skill. The Champion flailed at Taylor, and he missed while eating hard counters, but Taylor could not put Froch away. Memories of Taylor vs. Pavlik I began creeping into everyone's head, and it seemed like Taylor was haunted by that bout.

John Duddy Upset by Billy Lyell in the Brick City!

By: Danny Serratelli, ringside

Main Events featured a night of upsets tonight as Ireland’s John Duddy, 26-1, 17 KO’s was upset in the main event against Youngstown Ohio’s tough Billy Lyell, 19-7, 3 KO’s. Press row was pretty divided as far as who was winning throughout the fight, as well as when the final bell rang. Scores ranged from Duddy by a few points, to a draw to Lyell by a small to large margin.

The Doghouseboxing / Brickcityboxing scorecard had the fight 96-94 for Lyell, and truthfully it seemed like there were close rounds where Duddy was given the benefit of the doubt. In the end the officials scored the bout Tommy Kaczmarek (97-93 Lyell), Lawrence Layton (96-94 Duddy) and John Stewart (98-92 Lyell). People complained about Stewarts 98-92, but in reality, it appeared that score was more on point than Layton’s 96-94 for Duddy.

THE DERRY DESTROYER: DICED & DISSECTED BY LYELL

By: Declan Hughes

It wasn’t John Duddy’s night this past Saturday. It was in the air at the Prudential Center from the get go. There wasn’t the same atmosphere that is usually seen at a John Duddy fight. The usual raucous, rowdy Irish crowd that traveled for John Duddy in the past never showed up. The countless Irish flags waiving in the arena and joyful singing was absent. When Duddy entered the ring, the arena looked the same as it did when the first bout of the night went on. Needless to say it wasn’t sold out. There were a lot of empty seats at the Rock. To top it off, the loan piper that walks Duddy out to the ring didn’t play any music on his bag pipes. Ironically Duddy wound up fighting the same as the piper played his bag pipes. Silent. It just wasn’t Duddy’s night.

RICKY HATTON CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT

Richard Schaefer: Welcome everyone to today's conference call. We are only 10 days to fight night, which is certainly the most anticipated showdown of the year.
You have two very aggressive fighters, two guys who just know how to go forward. It's going to be a total battle in the ring and it's really shaping up based on the early indications to be one of the biggest boxing events we have seen in many, many years. I have some breaking news as well. Tickets are officially sold out. As all tickets are sold out we have opened up almost 20,000 closed circuit locations now in Las Vegas as the Mirage, the Treasure Island, Monte Carlo, Circus Circus, Luxor, New York, New York, and of course at the MGM as well and the Mandalay Bay Event Center. We'll most likely sell out with close circuit as well. Those tickets are priced at an affordable $50. As I said, this is an amazing showdown. These are two very skilled fighters. Both of them are top 10 ranked, the best pound per pound fighter and Ricky not far behind. Ricky wants to claim that title. He is undefeated at the 140 weight class. That's the weight of course this fight will be taking place at, the junior welterweight championship, the belt currently held by Ricky Hatton who is the undisputed junior welterweight champion of the world. It is a pleasure now for me to introduce to you the Hitman from Manchester, Ricky Hatton.

Ricky Hatton: Hello everyone. Thanks for joining us. I think where I'm at now with my training camp is the ideal place that I would like to be 10 days out from the fight. I've got one last sparring session to do tomorrow afternoon and then it will be just a case of basically tapering down my training and easing back. As you can appreciate this is - come fight night it would have been 12 weeks of training time. We've been working so hard for 11 of them I think you need that work to get it all back if you like and so and then - so just occasionally only one more hard sparring session on Wednesday and sharpening up my tools and

Green Trunks, Green Living: “Irish” John Duddy’s Tips for Saving the Planet!

Let’s knock out Global Warming together! “Irish” John Duddy, Champion of the Ring and Conservation, invites you to celebrate Earth Day with him, by making small changes that make a big impact on saving the Earth. Here are his top 5 tips for cutting down on energy consumption:

1.) Unplugging appliances that aren’t in use: So when you are at the Duddy vs. Lyell Fight this Friday, April 24th at Prudential Center in Newark at 8pm, do your part. Unplug the toaster.

2.) Fix leaky faucets: Don’t let water go to waste! Clean water is a precious resource that not everyone on the planet is able to enjoy. Fix leaky faucets, turn the water off when you are brushing your teeth and don’t leave it running when you are at the Duddy vs. Lyell fight this Friday!

3.) Plant a tree: Trees absorb carbon dioxide and create oxygen, making our air cleaner and reducing green house gasses. Name the tree “Irish John.”

DUDDYS TIME: NOW

Slugger Looks To Take Out Lyle, Championship In Midst?

By: Declan Hughes

John Duddy is finishing up his training camp in Miami for his April 24th match up against Billy Lyell. With trainer Pat Burns looking on, he says this about his budding prospect, “He’s doing really well, training hard and I am pleased. I’ve had the chance to look at footage of Lyell and he’s a tough guy that likes to brawl”. Burns goes on to say that this fight may resemble Duddy’s last fight when he outclassed Matt Vanda at Madison Square Garden a few months back. “He’s a lot like Vanda” Burns says.

Duddy, 28, with a record of 26-0, 17 KOs, out boxed a game Vanda to a unanimous decision. Lyell is 18-7 with just three KOs.

Duddy needs to step up this year instead of being fed sacrificial lambs and has beens, as was the case in the past with his former promoter, Irish Ropes. Duddy has since split with Irish Ropes and signed a deal with Main Events after the Vanda match.

After 12 rounds of Boxing, Paul Williams too much for Winky Wright

By: John Novosalec at ringside for DoghouseBoxing.com

Both Winky Wright and Paul Williams have had hard times finding opponents. Tonight in Las Vegas they found each other in a bout which held crossroads implications for Winky and potential career elevating status for the weight shifting Williams.

Ticket sales were slim for a fight held in a venue that was totally inappropriate for the fighters involved. This fight should have been in LA or the South, but it landed in a Vegas casino. Oh well, we have a fight that, though without a title at stake, still holds division significant division meaning. A win for Winky would reestablish himself, while a Williams victory would show that he truly can compete at a very high level in multiple weight classes.

Chris Arreola takes out Jameel McCline: Wants Klitschko Brothers

By: John Novosalec at ringside for DoghouseBoxing.com

Arreola continues to frustrate fans by coming in at 255 pounds, when everyone knows he’s better off about 10 pounds lighter. He finds massive Jameel McCline in his biggest test of his career, in both physical and boxing senses.

Some life was finally shown from the sparse crowd as Arreola entered the ring, as some fans made their way over from his hometown in Southern California.

Arreola pasted the aging McCline nearly at will throughout the first. Shots to the body, jabs, and heavy shots to the head were all in the mix. McCline seems to be in awful shape, as he started breathing through his mouth midway through the first. It doesn’t look good for Big Time. Round 2 saw the Nightmare continue as Chris added some uppercuts, though ate a few right hands for his trouble. Arreola continued to land straight rights in the third, but McCline loaded up a left hook that stunned him. Though his mouth open and bleeding he kept loading up the left hook that seemed to be finding its target.

Carl Froch’s V12 Cylinders

By: Rob Tierney

Carl Froch is coming to America. In fact, he’s planning on bringing his “V12 Cylinders” with him when he arrives in Connecticut. However, Jermain Taylor shouldn’t be worried. It doesn’t seem that the Champion is referring to any of Antonio Margarito’s foul methods of play. Instead, Carl Froch plans on bringing power and brute force so he can show the world that he is the true Super Middleweight Champion in a division with multiple title claimants. In Jermain Taylor, he faces a man carrying his own bad intentions.

The fight, which will be aired courtesy of SHOWTIME Championship Boxing on April 25th, is pitting the current WBC Super Middleweight Champion against a former Undisputed Middleweight Champion in Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor. The 168 lbs WBC title will be at stake and fireworks are expected to fly at the Foxwoods Casino & Resort when the fighters square off in Mashantucket, CT.
