Jones Destroys Esalas!
By: Jeff Miller @ ringside
The main event on Friday night at the Legendary Blue Horizon in Philly was a quick one. Undefeated Mike “MJ” Jones 17-0 (15 kos) took another step up the welterweight divisions Ladder, scoring an impressive 2nd round stoppage over Dairo Esalas 31-16 (25 kos) of Miami, FL.
Not much happened in the first round, as Jones was trying to cut off the ring and fire his jab. The second round was a different story, as Jones found his mark, dropping Esalas three times in about a minute. His speed and power was way too much for Esalas to handle. After the third knockdown, referee, Gary Rosado stopped the action immediately. Official time was 1:56.
With the win, Jones retains his NABA welterweight title.
In the evenings co-feature bout, Philly’s Teon “The Technician” Kennedy 12-0 (5 kos) earned a split decision victory over Andre Wilson 11-2 (9 kos) of St. Joseph, MO, in an eight round super bantamweight contest. Kennedy kept his composure, showing tremendous heart overcoming a third round knockdown, and a bad cut over his right eye (due to an early head but). His hand speed and accurate punching to the body proved to be the difference down the stretch. Official scores were 79-73, 76-75 for Kennedy, as on judge somehow had 76-75 for Wilson.
