Rivera Decisions Edwards; Gibbs Stops Sanders in Tampa!
Tampa, Florida - Featherweight prospect Carlos Rivera 15-3-2 (5 KO’s) earned the biggest victory of his career this past Friday as he scored an eight round unanimous decision over rugged contender Johnnie Edwards 14-4-1 (8 KO’s). The two clashed heads on multiple occasions, which caused Rivera to bleed heavily from his mouth in the second. The blood only sparked a fire within Rivera, who boxed excellently while taking Edwards’ best shots during the rest of the contest. Scores were 78-73 and 77-74 twice for Rivera, who resides in Port Richey, Florida.
In the co-feature, Middleweight rising star Ashandi “Mr. Brixx” Gibbs 10-0 (4 KO’s) scored a highlight reel knockout against Mark Sanders 3-2-1 (2 KO’s). Sanders, who hails from Lithonia, Georgia, had an excellent opening round where he boxed effectively and had the pro Gibbs crowd momentarily quiet. A revitalized Gibbs got back on track in the second and landed numerous big shots. Gibbs closed the show in the third as the St. Petersburg native landed a monster right uppercut that laid Sanders out cold.
Tampa Featherweight Charlie Serrano improved to 7-2 (2 KO’s) following a competitive four round decision over rugged challenger Adrian Perez 4-2-1 (1 KO) of Sarasota, Florida. Serrano got off to a fast start by sending Perez to the canvas in the opening round and hurting him again in the second. The game Perez dug deep and landed some heavy punches in rounds three and four. Serrano’s knockdown ultimately turned out to be the difference as all three judges scored the bout 38-37 for Serrano.
Light Heavyweight Adam Hubinger successfully returned following 3 ½ years of inactivity to pound out a hard fought six round decision over tough veteran Terrance Smith 5-9-2 (3 KO’s) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Hubinger from Tampa by way of the Czech Republic improves to 12-0 (10 KO’s). Scores were 58-56 on all three cards.
Dillett Fredrick of Fort Myers, Florida stopped Laquel Fleming in the opening stanza of their four round Junior Welterweight contest. Fredrick, 6-2-3 (3 KO’s) almost immediately overwhelmed Fleming and earned the stoppage following a barrage of unanswered punches. With the loss, Fleming returns home to Ocean Springs, Mississippi with a 1-2-2 record.
The card took place at the A La Carte Event Pavilion and was promoted by Starfight Productions. Starfight Productions is based out of Tampa, Florida and is operated by Aaron Jacobs, Shea Bailey, Pete Fernandez, Mike Asmer, and Randy Feldman.
The next card will take place March 27 and will once again be at the beautiful A La Carte Event Pavilion
