GSP & PENN DO IT AGAIN!!! UFC 94 MAIN EVENT READY TO EXPLODE

By: Michael Gawler

The first time these two men faced each other, Georges St. Pierre found victory in a controversial split decision. According to BJ Penn, he spent the hours following the fight at the bar while GSP was at the hospital. BJ and his fans felt he won this fight while the judges agreed with Georges and his fans that he won the fight. I personally believe that GSP did enough to earn the victory as well. However, this is an argument that has been ongoing for nearly 3 years. The good news is... Saturday night their gonna go at it again!!!

[More:]

UFC Lightweight Champion BJ “The Prodigy” Penn will challenge UFC Welterweight Champion Georges “Rush” St. Pierre for his title at UFC 94. The hype was built up in a three part series on SPIKE TV which followed the fighters training and lifestyles leading up to the match. “Prime Time” followed the path of the extremely popular HBO boxing series“24/7”. Penn was depicted as an arrogant and sometimes lazy challenger and GSP as a fine tuned MMA weapon. This prompted BJ to cancel filming of the third installment just minutes into the shoot. Both fighters made one thing clear, and thats that they want to fight!

Whether or not you choose to follow the betting lines or the manufactured hype surrounding this match is up to you, but I do suggest watching this fight. GSP has been so dominant since avenging his loss to Matt Serra and has nearly cleaned out his division which is one of the toughest in the sport. BJ has dominated his challengers at lightweight and is anxious to move up in weight to prove he is worthy of “Pound for Pound” status potentially being the first ever in the UFC to hold two titles at the same time. This will make for an exciting battle no matter what happens.

Since their last fight in March of 2006, I feel that GSP has improved greatly on all aspects of the sport. He also has proven to me that he trains to win. BJ has tremendous Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and very heavy hands which will be a factor. However, I believe that Georges ability to push the pace with his wrestling and ground and pound will be the bigger factor in this fight.

My official prediction is that this fight ends either by TKO or Unanimous Decision in the favor to Georges St. Pierre. I for one don’t feel that BJ will be able to keep up with the defending Champion this time. Post your comments and predictions here on BrickCityBoxing.com.
