Elieser Castillo vs Earl Ladsen Preview

By: Brad Marchetti

Elieser Castillo the Miami based Cuban Heavyweight coming off a recent loss on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights in July, will take on journeyman Earl Ladson at the beautiful Deauville Beach Resort in Miami Thursday night. The 37-year old Castillo is running out of time, and if the hard punching southpaw wants to be a contender again, he will need to start by flattening Ladson in the scheduled 10 rounder.

[More:]

The North Carolina based Ladson is a D+ level fighter that has faced a handful of prospects and former contenders, usually coming out on the losing end of decisions. Ladson, 13-17-1 (7) tries to do his best James Toney impression style wise, standing flatfooted in front of his opponent trying to shoulder roll and counterpunch. I wouldn’t call Ladson a poor man’s Toney however, he is more like a homeless man’s Toney.

I would have to make the OVER\UNDER on this fight at about 3.5 rounds. Castillo can still punch and Ladsen has been stopped 5 times. Castillo, 29-6-2 (16) still knows how to fight and is durable, but in his last loss against Fres Oquendo he refused to let his hands go which is a reoccurring problem. Sitting ringside I could hear his Castillo’s cornermen pleading with him to go all out and let his hands go round after round but he didn’t listen. Does Castillo still have gas left in the tank after a long amateur and pro career?
