Josesito Lopez and Pavel Miranda Return
HIGHLY-TOUTED PROSPECTS COMPETE IN SEPARATE BOUTS ON FEB. 22ND
ORANGE, CA – The future is bright for rising stars Josesito Lopez and Pavel Miranda, and many believe that 2008 will be the year that will show the world what these two prospects can do against the elite of their divisions. On Friday, February 22nd, at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California, Lopez and Miranda will have to survive their latest tests if they are to move forward in the ultra-competitive world of elite prizefighting.
In the lightweight main event, scheduled for eight rounds, Lopez will face his toughest challenge yet in Panama’s William Gonzalez. The co-featured bout will see the undefeated Miranda in an eight round junior welterweight contest against Julian Rodriguez.
“Path to Glory”, a five-bout card of explosive professional boxing, is presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California. For tickets, priced at $75, $45, and $30, please call 714-935-0900.
The pride of Riverside, California, 135-pound prospect Josesito Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) is ready to make a run against the best the lightweight division has to offer. Winner of six bouts in a row, including a nationally televised victory on “ShoBox:The New Generation” over Tyrone Harris last November, the 23-year-old is eager to get 2008 off to a strong start with a victory over William Gonzalez (21-3-1, 6 KOs), a seven year veteran of the fight game who has scored victories in four of his last five fights.
Hailing from Tijuana, 20-year-old Pavel Miranda (16-0-1, 10 KOs) has rebounded from a controversial draw in his seventh fight to reel off nine straight wins that included six knockouts. In May of last year, Miranda took home his first pro title – the WBC Youth junior welterweight title -with a ten round decision win over previously unbeaten Miguel Zuniga, and in his last fight on September 16th, Miranda stopped Francisco Gil in three rounds. His opponent, Julian Rodriguez (15-14-3, 9 KOs) from Casas Grandes, Mexico, is rarely seen in a dull fight.
In undercard action, San Bernardino’s Jonathan Velardez will put his perfect 5-0 (4 KOs) record on the line in a six round flyweight bout against Los Angeles’ Daniel Quevedo (7-6, 6 KOs), and unbeaten welterweights Mauricio Herrera (2-0, 1 KO) of Miraloma and Ramon Torres (2-0) of Riverside clash in a four round contest.
Also in the ring on February 22nd will be Josesito Lopez’ power punching brother Rafael Lopez (3-0, 3 KOs), who will compete in a junior middleweight four rounder against Seattle’s Johnny Red Tomahawk (3-4, 3 KOs)
Bouts subject to change. Doors open at 6:30pm, and the first bell rings at 7:45pm. The Doubletree Hotel is located at 222 North Vineyard Avenue in Ontario.
