UFC 79 RETURNS to VEGAS

By: Michael Gawler

UFC 79 Will Feature a Super Card to End an Unpredictable Year of Fighting!!!

The Mandalay Bay Events Center will once again host a UFC “Super Card” on December 29th. The UFC is looking to close out 2007 with a bang. Fight fans will see a Welterweight Title fight and a long awaited grudge match between two of the sports top light heavyweights. These matches and more make UFC 79: Nemesis one of the most anticipated cards in a long time.

The main event will see Ultimate Fighter coaches Matt Hughes and welterweight Matt Serra collide for the 170lb Championship in a 5 round fight. Serra is coming off of a shocking first round knockout of former champ Georges St-Pierre, the man that took the title from Hughes. Hughes recently defeated Chris Lytle by unanimous decision in his last contest.

Also on the card is what many say is the most anticipated fight in MMA history as Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell meets “The Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva. Both men are coming off of back-to-back losses and need a win to climb closer to their divisions Championship. Liddell recently dropped a decision to underdog Keith Jardine and a stunning knockout loss to the divisions champ, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Silva recently suffered two highlight reel knockout losses to Dan Henderson and Mirko Cro Cop.

The event will also host the UFC debut of Pride standout Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou as he takes on undefeated Brazilian Lyoto Machida. This fight will make one of these fighters an instant contender in the 205 weight class.
