Interview With Tommy Rainone
By: Matt Yanofsky

Today I had the opportunity to speak with Tommy Rainone. Rainone is scheduled to fight December 8th. In September, Rainone {1-0} won a unanimous decision in his professional debut earning respect and big fan support.
MY: You just had your first pro fight in September defeating a fighter who came into the bout with 10 fights under his belt. How did it feel debuting against a fighter with that kind of experience?
TR: They changed the opponent three or four times so coming into the fight so they gave me the option to fight him. I was ready and focused I knew he was 4-6 coming in and I knew he would leave 4-7. This wasn’t an easy fight. The other debuting fighters on the card were matched up against fighters with less than three fights.
MY: Has living in an area with a lot of other young budding professional fighters made it easier for you to prepare and train for your fights?
TR: Honestly, where I train we only have 3-4 pro fighters. I do spar elsewhere including Gleason’s. I worry about myself but wish the best for guys like Dmitry Salita, Derrick Rossy, and Joe Greene I want these guys to succeed.
MY: Is there a fighter whose style you admire or try to emulate while in the ring?
TR: Yeah, Paul Spadafora. It’s not so much I try its just that once I saw him fight I said damn, my style is just like his. Much like Spadafora, I fight off angles and work the jab. I watch a lot of his fights and it’s crazy to me.
MY: On December 8th you are fighting Jesse Gomez at the Huntington Townhouse in Long Island. How does it feel to have another fight at home in front of your friends and fans?
TR: Excellent, Im all about the LI scene and my people. I don’t view it as pressure I try to block the crowd out but I love it. Anywhere else I don’t have that kind of support. It won’t be an easy fight. Although he is 1-2 he, is a straight forward fighter. It’s far from a walk in the park
MY: How did you get the nickname “The Razor”?
TR: My friend Brendan Franklin, he gave me the nickname in 7th grade after a street fight. He said to me I was sharp as a razor. After that a lot of my friends started calling me the razor.
